As you may know, the Women’s Leadership Council under the United Way of Seneca County acknowledges an extensive problem with bullying in our schools and in our community. Our children and young adults may not have the tools necessary to combat this growing issue. Our belief is that it takes a holistic approach to address this issue and we would like to encourage the entire county community to step up and help put an end to this social problem – together. To assist in this endeavor, we have assembled resources from the nationally renowned Search Institute to create a “Values of the Month” calendar. We hope this resource will help our youth learn some of the basic assets necessary to strengthen character and develop empathy for fellow mankind. We are pleased to send this monthly resource information on a quarterly basis to all interested to help you assist the youth of Seneca County build and strengthen their social assets.
As we look forward to summer, we just released June, July and August 2021. We offer a monthly theme with suggested activities for both the youth and the adults in their life that can help foster the value of the month. For example: July is designated as “Citizenship” month. Some suggested activities for youth that will help to promote awareness of this trait could be: ‘Help take care of the environment’ and ‘Become involved in Vacation Bible School or civic activities’, while the suggested activities for the adults might be ‘Set aside some time each night for family activities’ and ‘Create a list of free and fun things to do this summer’.
This united effort could have a positive impact on this growing negative social issue. We are hopeful the minimal amount of time it takes to implement will certainly be rewarded with the skills fostered by these activities and the creation of a caring community culture in which bullying is not accepted. Sincerely,
Women’s Leadership Council
